When will the new Library be open?
The Library opened September 6th, 2011
Hours: Mon – Fri – 9:30 am – 9 pm. Sat 10 am – 1 pm. Sun 1 – 5 pm.
Sat. September 24, 2011 – Official Grand Opening Celebration
Timeline (as of June 2010):
April 2010 – Excavation begins
May 2010- Excavation complete. Concrete poured for the underground parking level
June 2010 – Test concrete walls poured and approved
July 2010 – Construction well underway
March 2011 – Substantial completion of the building
May 2011 – Preparation for move in begins.
Sept. 6th 2011 – the Library opens to the public.

Will the existing Whalley Library remain open during construction? Yes, but there will be reduced service and hours in July. Click here for details. The Whalley Library will be permanently closed on July 24. You can still return items in the Whalley Library book drop until the new library opens.
Where will the new Library be located? 10350 University Drive, Surrey, BC V3T 4B8.
It is near the Surrey Central Skytrain station and north of the North Surrey Recreation Centre.
How big will the Library be? We are planning for a 77,000 sq. ft library.
Will the Library be a ‘green’ building? Yes, the Library will be built to LEED Silver standards.
Who is the architect for this project? The project has been awarded to Bing Thom Architects. This company is also responsible for designing the Central City Tower in City Centre. For more information, view their website at http://www.bingthomarchitects.com/
What are the Special features of the City Centre Library? The new library will offer expanded collections, a Computer Learning Centre for training purposes, small and large community meeting spaces, wi-fi access, Coffee shop and many other services.
How is the construction being funded? The funding for the new $36 million City Centre Library has been secured. The Library project has been selected as part of the federal stimulus package. Three levels of government, the City of Surrey, the Province of British Columbia and the federal government, will each contribute towards the cost.
What about parking? Parking will be limited at City Centre Library until the City Hall parkade is completed in 2012/2013. There will be a small lot just south of the Library, across University Drive. Please consider using transit.

I work at a Seniors home and would like to bring a bus load there.
Will the books and movies from he Whalley Library be transferred to the new library?
Yes. Any that might have been in poor condition will have been withdrawn.

hi i have a question. i read that there will be soundproof chairs is that true?
Hi
The two luna chairs (green chairs on L2) are ‘sound’ chairs. Not technically soundproof, but can plug in audio. e.g. CDs, Ipods, etc. and listen inside the chair. We are working with IT/Facilities to fully set up the chairs.
Will the library be closed on special events like Pro-D Day, Rememberance Day, and Thanksgiving??

I was wondering when the new library will start buying new books. Whenever I go to the library there are not that many books to read and the ones I want to read are never available or are reference books.
Surrey Libraries continue to purchase new books for City Centre Library, however, 9 libraries in Surrey share the books. Often new books have holds placed on them so they are not available on the shelves for loan as they are already checked out, or they may have been sent to another branch to fill a hold request. You may search the library catalogue and reserve books yourself or you may also suggest books for us to purchase – just ask one of our staff at the Information Desk to show you how.
Hello to the staff at Whalley Surrey Library. Does your library keep michrofiche films from newspapers past. I have a gr. aunt who died in Whalley in July 28, 1968, Name Frances May Woods. I would like to get a copy of her obituary. Can you help me. Thanks
